Environmental humanities

A collection of 213 booklets produced in small editions by cardboard publishers (editoriales cartoneras) small grassroots cooperatives with strong links to local communities that originated in Argentina in 2003 and spread outwards in the 21st century, mostly the 2010s. They are distinguished by covers of recycled cardboard (Spanish cartón), paper and other discarded materials. Each booklet is unique due to its handcrafted nature.

Comprising a broad range of material of particular value for economic and social history, the Goldsmiths’ Library of Economic Literature contains some 70,000 printed books, pamphlets, periodicals, manuscripts, broadsides and proclamations from the fifteenth to the twentieth centuries, with particular strengths to 1850. Among these are titles that cover agriculture, gardening, and changes to the environment due to colonisation and industrial development.

Approximately 1,850 titles documenting western European (especially English) perceptions of Russia between 1525 and the Revolution of 1917, with particular emphasis on nineteenth-century publications. Travel narratives, diaries and other personal accounts of time spent in Russia, and other general descriptions form major components of the collection, which often include descriptions of the environments travellers' experienced.

A comprehensive collection on left-wing politics, relating especially to labour and radical political movements, including environmental movements. It currently comprises approximately 25,000 books, 20,000 pamphlets, 3,000 journal and newspaper titles, archival material, and a quantity of ephemera.

A series of sketches by the microscopist and botanical artist Franz Andreas Bauer (1758-1840). All images are available digitally on the corresponding Senate House Library archives record.

Materials gathered by the socialist William Fancy (1933-2009) including from the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND).

Archival materials gathered by Ron Heisler in addition to the printed collections available in the library. The archival items include photographs of Greenham Common, dated 1983.

The travel diaries, sketchbooks and sketches form a partial record of Charles Booth's travels. The sketches are mainly by Charles Booth, although some are probably the work of Mary Catherine Booth. The contents include travel diaries of Charles Booth's tour of the Middle East (1862), the sketchbooks of Charles Booth (1856-1893) and paintings and sketches of Charles Booth (1852-1884).
